# Playing DTMF Tones Before Paging or Alerts

When amplifiers are connected to the 8305 or 8301 **AUX OUT** port, some may require DTMF to select broadcast zones.

DTMF tones are supported in the following events:

- While playing pre-recorded ringtones, or emergency alerts
- During paging

You can configure the same global DTMF tone(s) for all events or set tones per event.

#### Setting Global DTMF Tones for All Events

You can set the same global DTMF tone(s) for all paging, ringing, and Emergency Alerts so that the same broadcast zones are used for all events.

**To set a global DTMF tone for all events:**

1. Log in to your 8301 or 8305’s web interface.
2. Go to **Advanced Settings** → **Advanced Audio**.
3. To play DTMF tones before paging, ringing, or emergency alerts, set **Play DTMF Tones Before Pages/Alerts** to **Enabled.**
4. For **DTMF Tone(s)**, select **Global.**
5. Enter **Global DTMF Tone(s)**. To specify multiple DTMF tones, enter them as a continuous sequence, exactly the same way you would press keys on a telephone keypad.

You can also use commas to add a pause between tones.

For example:

| Desired Tones | Enter |
| --- | --- |
| Tone 1 | `1` |
| Zone 3, then confirm | `3#` |
| Zones 2 and 4 | `24` or `2,4` |
| Special command | `*1#` |

> Note
>
> The applicable DTMF tones are defined by the connected amplifier. The above examples are provided for illustration purposes only.
6. Select **Save**.

#### Setting Specific DTMF Tones for Different Events

You can configure different DTMF tones for all ringing, Emergency Alerts, and paging so that different broadcast zones are used for each event.

You must configure a DTMF tone for the Ring Extension, Emergency Alert, or Page Extension.

The following example shows how to set the DTMF tone for a page extension:
